Public Consultation: Wellman’s PET recycling plant
Overview:
Wellman’s international is pleased to announce a partnership with UG Group, advancing Ireland’s transition towards a circular, low carbon economy.
Located in Mullagh, County Cavan, the project converts post-consumer PET waste collected from municipal solid waste streams into high-quality recycled PET fibre. By replacing energy-intensive virgin PET production, it will significantly reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and divert plastic waste from landfill.
Using innovative recycling technology and operating under UNFCCC approved methodology, this project will deliver verified emission reductions and continue the operations of the plant. Through continuous monitoring and transparent reporting, it will generate certified carbon credits demonstrating measurable climate impact and reinforcing Wellman’s commitment to sustainable industrial innovation and environmental responsibility.
Why This Project?
In partnership with UG Group, this initiative combines sustainable manufacturing and circular innovation by promoting:
- Carbon reduction and verified credit creation through the recovery and recycling of post-consumer PET waste
